Rozpočet historického válečného velkofilmu HERO několikrát překročil prostředky vložené do oscarového filmu TYGR A DRAK. Režisérem filmu je dvojnásobný laureát Zlatého Medvěda a ceny BAFTA, třikrát nominovaného na Zlatou Palmu Zhang Yimou. Hereckými hvězdami jsou Ziyi Zhang (která zazářila v již zmiňovaném filmu Tygr a drak) a Jet Li (Romeo musí zemřít). Děj se odehrává před 2000 lety za vlády dynastie Qin a vypráví příběh hrdinného válečníka a ochránce krále, před kterým stojí obrovský úkol – sjednotit Čínu a krále tak učinit Imperátorem. Producenti při natáčení spolupracovali s čínskou armádou a tak mohly vzniknout jedny z nejefektnějších scén dějin historického válečného filmu. Tvůrci zvedli laťku pořádně vysoko.
